Turkiewicz: Alpe Adria Cup is my idea
GTK Gliwice will be the first Polish team in the Alpe Adria Cup. The coach of our club comments on the situation. - You can say that with this cup I invented myself - Paweł Turkiewicz explains the challenge. Coach invented, the chairman accepted, and the club will play against teams from: Czech Republic, Austria and Slovenia.
- I told the president about such games. I also did an interview about them. If Czechs, Slovaks or Hungarians play in it, why would not we play, show up and check? - says Paweł Turkiewicz.
Recall that on Wednesday we officially announced that our team will perform in the Alpe Adria Cup. In Vienna, a draw was held, and fate was associated GTK Gliwice with teams: Sencur Gorenjska (Slovenia), Sluneta Usti nad Lebem (Czech Republic) and BC Hellmann Vienna (Austria). The first match will be played on 2nd October in Gliwice.
- We are well connected. We are close to the border and the motorway, and trips are not far away ... well, maybe apart Slovenia. The costs will not be so big, and the experience gained for all of us can give us a lot - continues our trainer. - We want to get to know this competition, see how it looks and show up.
What goals have been set for the team? - We will play and gain experience. Teams in this competition are certainly within our reach, but this is not the most important thing. We focus on the league, where after the second season we will compete in Energa Basket League. It is the most important. The cup gives us the opportunity to play a few matches more in the season and to fill the breaks during the windows for the national team competitions - comments the coach.
- For sure it will be a nice time for us, for the club, the city and the fans. The organizers want to develop and are happy that the club from Poland would like to participate in the competition. I think it will be beneficial for all parties - Paweł Turkiewicz concludes.
It is worth adding that in the previous season our new player Tanel Kurbas competed in this competition, which was also a valuable "information base". Estonian and his previous club BK Levicki Patrioti finished second, losing in the final with the Slovenian team Zlatorog Lasko.
